Victoria Palace Theatre
A theatre has occupied this site since 1832, when it was Moy's Music Hall, before it was renamed The Royal Standard Music Hall in 1863. The building was demolished in 1886 and rebuilt, becoming touted as 'the most comfortable Hall of entertainment in London'. At the beginning of the 20th century, the advent of electricity and other technical improvements meant that the theatre was demolished again, then rebuilt in 1910 by Frank Matcham. The Victoria Palace Theatre retains a lot of its original characteristics, and seats 1517 people.
Currently, Billy Elliot: The Musical is showing, and booking is available until April 2010. The show is on at 7:30pm, Monday to Saturday, and there's a matinee show at 2:30pm on Thursdays and Saturdays. This performance is about 3 hours long, with a 20-minute interval.
The Victoria Palace Theatre is in Victoria Street, London, SW1E 5EA, near Victoria tube station.
