The Duchess Theatre, in London's West End, will be hosting a new presentation of the classic and beloved musical, The Fantasticks, from May in 2010. This fresh performance brings renewed vigour and energy to the show, with set designs by Miyamoto and Tony Award-nominated Rumi Matsui, and the lighting designed by Tony Award-winner Rick Fisher.

The Fantasticks tells the story of two fathers who build a wall between their properties to make sure their children fall in love, because children always do the opposite of what their parents want. Only after the children have fallen in love do they find out about their fathers' scheme, and leave home to see the world. Eventually, they reunite and give in to their passion, having discovered how to understand their feelings.

Amon Miyamoto directs this touching story, which is performed Monday to Saturday at 19.45, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 15.00.

Duchess Theatre

Not to be confused with another London theatre of a similar name, the Duchess Theatre is a famous installation on the West End. E. Warmsley Lewis designed this London theatre, which is slightly more modern than some of its counterparts and was opened in 1930 as a large-scale cinema. The Duchess Theatre was turned into a concert hall after it closed in 1981, following six years of closure.

Since then, this London theatre has hosted famous productions such as the Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof and Starlight Express to mention but a few.

Currently the Duchess Theatre is staging a production of Wicked, an adaptation of the highly-acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire. The story follows the friendship of two young sorcery students who become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glenda the Good - from the Wizard of Oz. Booking is available until 3 April 2010, and shows are on Monday to Saturday at 7:30pm, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2:30pm.

This London theatre seats 1,524 and is situated on Wilton Road, London, SW1V 1LL. The closest Underground and train station is Covent Garden.
