This fall, Shaftsbury Theatre in London's West End will host the explosive dance extravaganza, Flashdance the Musical, based on the smash hit 1983 Paramount Pictures film, Flashdance.
Robert Clay and Tom Hedley wrote the script for Flashdance the Musical, while Robbie Roth wrote the music and collaborated with Robert Cary on the lyrics. Nikolai Foster will direct the performance, with Arlene Phillips doing the choreography and Phil Edwards supervising the orchestrations and music.
The setting for the story is Pittsburgh, USA, where Alex, an 18-year-old welder during the day and 'flashdancer' at night, dreams of obtaining a place at the prominent Shipley Dance Academy. It's a stirring musical drama about holding onto love and dreams against all odds, and the score includes such popular tunes as Maniac, Gloria, I love Rock and Roll, Manhunt, and 10 additional original tracks written especially for the musical, as well as the well-known title track, Flashdance - What a Feeling, winner of an Academy Award.
Flashdance the Musical, at the Shaftsbury Theatre, will be a blistering dance performance set to foot-tapping, high energy music, throbbing with vitality. It's set to be the year's top theatrical event, so come and get your dose of dynamic dancing!

The Shaftesbury Theatre
Bertie Crewe designed the Shaftesbury Theatre for the brothers Walter and Frederick Melville, and it was opened in 1911. This London theatre was originally known as the New Prince's Theatre and took its current name in 1963.This famed London theatre has staged many successful productions, such as High Society starring Jerry Hall, Daddy Cool: The Musical and Fame: The Musical.
Currently on stage is the multiple award-winning hit musical comedy Hairspray. This comedy, directed by Jack O'Brien, follows the amusing and endearing adventures of Tracy Turnblad - a large girl with big dreams, as she tries to dance herself onto the most popular dance show on TV. Celebrated entertainer Brian Conley plays Edna, Tracy's larger-than-life mother, with credits that include television, film, comedy, musicals and variety performances. This lively production has broken box office records at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Booking is available until 21 December 2010.
