Gielgud Theatre

The Gielgud Theatre was designed in 1906 by W.G.R. Sprague, and was initially called the Hicks Theatre, then renamed the Globe in 1909 before it became the Gielgud Theatre in 1995, named after the world-renowned actor, Sir John Gielgud.

This impressive London theatre towers four storeys above Shaftesbury Avenue, and the turret on its top increases its height. Inside, beautifully decorated pillars support rich Baroque adornment and boxes. Despite its imposing looks, its production history has been chequered.

Some noteworthy productions staged here are The Importance of Being Earnest, Fallen Angels, The Lady's Not for Burning, There's a Girl in My Soup and A Man For All Seasons.

This London theatre has a seating capacity of 973, and is at 33 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, W1D 6AR.
