Hairspray, the mother of all musicals, follows Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart as she sets out to dance her way onto TV's most popular dance show.
Can this ordinary girl realise her extraordinary dreams, inspire her mum and still have time to win the boy she loves? Michael Ball, one of Britain's leading musical stars, undergoes a major transformation to play Tracy's larger than life mother Edna, while comedian and actor Mel Smith, widely known for his comedy sketch series Smith and Jones, will play her Father Wilbur.

The Shaftesbury Theatre
Bertie Crewe designed the Shaftesbury Theatre for the brothers Walter and Frederick Melville, and it was opened in 1911. This London theatre was originally known as the New Prince’s Theatre and took its current name in 1963.This famed London theatre has staged many successful productions, such as High Society starring Jerry Hall, Daddy Cool: The Musical and Fame: The Musical.
Currently on stage is the multiple award-winning hit musical comedy Hairspray. This comedy, directed by Jack O’Brien, follows the amusing and endearing adventures of Tracy Turnblad – a large girl with big dreams, as she tries to dance herself onto the most popular dance show on TV. Celebrated entertainer Brian Conley plays Edna, Tracy’s larger-than-life mother, with credits that include television, film, comedy, musicals and variety performances. This lively production has broken box office records at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Booking is available until 21 December 2010.
