Lyceum Theatre - London

The Peto and Grissell partnership built the current Lyceum Theatre in 1834, although there has been a Lyceum Theatre on this site since 1765. Samuel Beazley designed the 2,100-seat playhouse, whose unique feature is a balcony that overhangs the circle. The original grand portico and façade remain, but Bertie Crewe substantially redesigned the auditorium in 1904. In 1996 the building was returned to theatrical use after being used as a ballroom for some time. Noteworthy prior productions staged at this London theatre include Hamlet, Queen of Hearts and Jesus Christ Superstar, which ran for two years.

The current show at Lyceum Theatre has been running for nine years. The theatre became home to the musical rendition of The Lion King in 1999. The production is a visual and auditory feast, with its expansive sets, spectacular costumes and amazing music. Bookings are available until 31 March 2010. The evening show is on from Tuesday to Saturday at 7:30pm, and matinees are on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2pm and 3pm respectively.

Lyceum Theatre is at 21 Wellington Street, London, WC2E 7RQ. The closest Underground is Covent Garden/Charing Cross and the nearest train station is Charing Cross.
