Andrew Lloyd Webber's Love Never Dies!
Andrew Lloyd Webber's long-awaited London Musical Love Never Dies will have its global premiere at the Adelphi Theatre in London's West End on 9 March 2010. The musical continues the story of the central character of the celebrated West End Musical The Phantom of the Opera and is set in 1906, approximately ten years after his mystifying disappearance in Paris. The Phantom's new haunting ground is Brooklyn's Coney Island in the United States.
Christine, The Phantom's eternal love, receives an invitation to perform at a new Coney Island show titled Phantasma. She travels to Brooklyn with her son Gustave and husband Raoul, not knowing that her visit to Coney Island has been cleverly engineered by none other than The Phantom, who has restored his success and wealth through initiating a number of successful Coney Island attractions.
Premier performances will follow in New York on 11 November 2010 and in Australia in 2011. With great expectations and countless Phantom fans, Love Never Dies promises to become one of the most popular West End Musicals ever and will undoubtedly go on to thrill millions of fans worldwide.
The Adelphi Theatre
Originally called the Sans Pareil ('Without Compare'), the Adelphi Theatre opened in 1806. Its name is taken from the Greek word adelphoi meaning 'brothers', from a neoclassical block of terrace houses constructed by the Adam brothers and running from The Strand to the River Thames. The present Adelphi Theatre building is the fourth to occupy this site, built by Frank Kirk in 1930 and designed by Ernest Runtz. This London theatre has hosted numerous renowned stage shows, including performances of Chicago and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita, plus the video of Cats was filmed here in 1998.
The Adelphi Theatre will soon be celebrating the talents of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jnr in the musical The Rat Pack - Live from Las Vegas. Booking is from 23 September 2009 to 4 January 2010 and a special Christmas show, Christmas with the Rat Pack, will run from 24 November 2009 to 3 January 2010.
Located at 409-412 Strand in London's West End, the hub of London theatre, the Adelphi has a seating capacity of 1, 480. The nearest Underground stations are Charing Cross and Embankment
